My dedication to building a booming economy goes beyond the 3rd Congressional District as it is my hope that all Georgians can thrive in all 159 counties, not just those at the top. Georgia has a reputation as one of the country’s best states to do business. However, we need to work on making Georgia one the best places in the country to be employed, live, and retire as well. Investing in small businesses and the assets that all businesses need, like a well-educated workforce and strong infrastructure in the 3rd Congressional District is the best way to deliver high-quality employment. Promoting policies that support workers, eliminate obstacles to opportunity, and foster success for every family is the way to uplift Georgians.

When President Obama took office in 2009, he inherited an economy in freefall, plagued by huge deficits, skyrocketing healthcare costs, dwindling employment, and banking and housing markets on the brink of collapse. Working with President Obama, Democrats stabilized the financial system, helped to prevent a second Great Depression, and created millions of new jobs. However, our country’s current state under the COVID-19 pandemic and Republican mismanagement is leading us into an unprecedented health and economic crisis.

As your member in Congress, I will fight to guarantee that all Georgians have the opportunity to succeed and that all working families can enjoy economic security. We must work hard to extend relief to every Georgian so that no one is left behind. When Republicans cut taxes for the wealthy but not the middle class, or threaten our recovery with disastrous financial policies, Democrats will fight back. Democrats will move to provide relief for working families, provide assistance to small businesses and homeowners, and strengthen consumer protections. Despite COVID-19’s effect on almost every industry in our economy, we must provide relief for hardworking Americans who’ve lost employment through no fault of their own. I will not be satisfied until every Georgian who wants to work can find quality employment. We will meet the challenges of this modern century by stimulating job creation, rebuilding our infrastructure, and investing in clean-energy technologies and small businesses.

Together, we can make a better Georgia.

Every child, no matter their ZIP code, deserves access to a quality public K-12 education and affordable post-secondary education. Our children’s lives are the fate of our economy. We know that as the global marketplace grows more competitive, we need to expand opportunities for quality education and useful job skills. I am dedicated to ensuring the next generation has access to the education that ensures they can excel in an ever-evolving job market. Education is one of the most pressing issues in America’s future, and we cannot allow our country to fall behind in a global economy. We must prepare the next generation for the opportunity to reach that horizon and succeed in the jobs of tomorrow.

History has shown that Democratic leaders have been instrumental in championing the cause of quality public education. A landmark legislation, the G.I. Bill, was passed in 1944 by president Franklin Roosevelt that provided opportunities for higher education to World War II veterans. It was this G.I. Bill that defined the modern American middle class. With the objective of supplying a quality education to every child, a Democratic-controlled Congress under president Lyndon B. Johnson in 1965 legislated the Elementary and Secondary Education Act. Recent Democratic legislative victories have further increased access to higher education, restructured and dramatically expanded college financial aid, and improved student outcomes. Furthermore, President Obama addressed the problem with big banks’ role in student loans in 2010 by signing into law student loan reform that removed their participation. To make it easier for students to pay back student loans, the Obama administration also doubled investment with Pell Grants reform.

All of this work to make quality education more accessible and in reach of every child hangs in the balance now. As Donald Trump and Betsy DeVos attempt to walk us back from these amazing leaps forward that we’ve made on education, we must keep fighting to elect Democrats who will advocate for education.

I am committed to investing in the needs of all students, from high-quality, affordable childcare and pre-kindergarten programs, continuing through fully-funded public schools, and finally onto post-secondary opportunities that will lead to a lifetime of success.

As your 3rd Congressional District Representative, I will fight to:

  • Prioritize safe schools and help provide a weapons-free learning environment for all children
  • Endorse and fund child mental health services
  • Make public colleges and universities tuition-free for all families with incomes below $125,000 as well as make community colleges and trade schools tuition free
  • Support the expansion of programs that provide tuition-free community and technical college and need-based financial aid for a path for debt-free graduation
  • Protect Georgia’s public schools from privatization by supporting full and dedicated funding

We made great advances fighting climate change and protecting our nation’s public lands, waterways, and air quality under President Obama. The Department of Transportation and the Environmental Protection Agency issued new fuel-economy standards. The EPA also took steps to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from the largest concentrated source of emissions in the United States — coal-fired power plants. But under the Trump Administration, our country is now the sole nation in the world that is not a party to the Paris Agreement. Donald Trump has called climate change “a hoax invented by the Chinese,” and by choosing to ignore the consensus of the scientific community on climate change, he is putting our country’s health, security, and economy at risk.

We need to build on President Obama’s progress. Climate change is one of our country’s greatest challenges and addressing this imperative danger could make America the world’s clean energy leader and create prosperity with millions of good-paying jobs. The collaboration of the everyday people, the scientific community, and the public and the private sector is key to confronting our biggest environmental challenges and paving the way to a more sustainable America.

Democrats are committed to champion the protection of our waterways, air, coasts, and communities from environmental hazards. As a member of Congress, I will fight to curb the effects of climate change, protect Georgia’s natural resources, and ensure the quality of our air, water, and land for current and future generations. I will work to strengthen these protections and create green jobs connected to environmental protection for Georgians. Additionally, I will advocate for policies that address climate change and prioritize preserving the health of our environment for the betterment of our citizens and economic prosperity.

As your 3rd Congressional District Representative, I will fight to:

  • Support advancements in renewable energy respecting Georgia initiatives
  • Support a “no” vote for drilling off Georgia’s coastline
  • Fight for environmental equality by making sure that our low-income communities are not bearing the brunt of industrial and commercial projects
  • Fight to keep coal ash from our clean water supply
  • Safeguard our neighborhoods from climate change

For a stronger Georgia — a stronger America, full inclusion and equal rights are essential for everyone. I believe that every American is equal no matter their race, sex, religion, ethnicity or national origin, disability status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or age. Democrats have a long and proud record of defending civil rights and expanding opportunity for all Americans. From the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act in 2009 to the inclusion of marriage equality in the party platform in 2012, Democrats have fought to end discrimination in all forms. I plan to uphold that legacy.

I am committed to protecting voting rights, freedom of religion, women’s rights to make their own healthcare decisions, and equal federal rights for LGBTQ+ individuals. No matter who you are, who you love, where you’re from, or how you worship, I believe in treating every person with basic human dignity and respect. Only when every person, every family is ensured the freedom and opportunity to thrive, will we truly succeed as a nation.

As your 3rd Congressional District Representative, I will fight to:

  • Champion robust anti-discrimination laws to advance protections for all workers
  • Protect LGBTQ+ individuals from violence and work to end the epidemic of violence against the transgender community, particularly transgender women of color.
  • Work collaboratively with legislators to ensure that protections against harassment are strong, comprehensive, and just, statewide
  • Support making access to high-quality health care for LGBTQ+ individuals.
  • Ensure fair treatment of LGBTQ+ individuals in the criminal justice system.
  • Advance global LGBTQ+ rights and development.

By making quality and affordable healthcare obtainable, President Obama delivered on a long-awaited promise that the American people had been in dire need of for decades. He, along with Vice President Biden, made history by signing the Affordable Care Act (ACA) into law in March 2010. This victory to the American people was the result of a huge fight opposed by politicians and big business and a long history of maintaining the status quo.

Although the ACA provided over 100 million Americans with the peace of mind from being denied coverage or paying sky high premiums due to pre-existing conditions, it’s still very much in danger. There are those who see quality healthcare as a luxury and the ACA has continued to face serious opposition since its establishment. However, healthcare is still a right—a basic right that we must protect.

The current COVID-19 pandemic shows us how ill-prepared our national healthcare system is in protecting the people. Serious improvements are needed. Sick Americans should not have to make difficult choices between seeking medical care and staying financially afloat. The pathway forward is to enhance the reach of the ACA and expand Medicaid and Medicare. As a Podiatric Surgeon and a prostate cancer survivor, I have seen both sides of the healthcare system. My fight against cancer exposed me with the high cost of obtaining essential medical services, prescriptions and devices, and repeated office visits. American healthcare is in a state of crisis and it will take someone who understands science and understands health to help resolve the many challenges and prioritize the health and safety of our communities.

As your 3rd Congressional District Representative, I will actively work with Vice President Biden to do all that I can to protect the ACA from Republican efforts to dismantle it. Like VP Biden, I know that to make the ACA better isn’t to start over, but to expand choices offered, reducing costs and simplifying the entire system. I will align with other Democrats who are committed to preserving and protecting the ACA and the peace of mind it has brought to millions of Americans. And we will not allow a repeal by the Trump administration or any entity that plans to take health care away from tens of millions of Americans. The progress we have already made is significant but there is still work to be done to extend and maintain it for the coming generations.

As your 3rd Congressional District Representative, I will fight to:

  • Safeguard affordable care for Georgia’s elderly population
  • Support ACA with lower premiums, expand Medicaid, and expand Medicare coverage
  • Help alleviate the stigma of mental illness by making counseling services available and part of the healthcare system
  • Encourage the use of state and federal funding to help supply dependable healthcare to the poorest areas and to rural areas
  • Allocate funds to help protect women’s health issues

Together, we can make a more prosperous Georgia for everyone, and access to healthcare is critical.

I believe in Georgia’s promise and, as the next member of Congress from Georgia’s 3rd district, I’m committed to upholding and protecting the U.S. Constitution and the Constitution of the State of Georgia.

As your member of Congress, I intend to uphold every citizen’s right to equal and impartial justice under the law. I believe elected officials must protect the rights of all Georgians and the integrity of the democratic process. I will work to responsibly sponsor and support legislation that benefits the common good, protects Georgia citizens from discrimination, and protects our liberties. Our laws should not compromise our individual liberties and our system must deliver fair and impartial justice.

As your 3rd Congressional District representative, I will fight to:

  • Support hate crime legislation to increase criminal penalties for acts of violence or intimidation committed because of a victim’s race, color, ancestry, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, gender, or a disability
  • Support funding and staffing of ethics regulating agencies with protection for whistle blowers from retribution
  • Oppose any restrictions that disenfranchise voters and support an open, verifiable voting system that encourages all voters to participate in our great democracy
  • Support drug rehabilitation programs and adequate funding and careful monitoring of the public defender system
  • Support federal and Georgia state legislation to eliminate unfair restrictions on workers to organize unions in the workplace and enforcement of existing labor laws that protect workers

Together, we can make a better Georgia.
